Ingredients

Burger Patties
  • 1 pound ground beef 80/20 blend for optimal juiciness
Burger Toppings
  • 4 slices cheddar cheese optional
  • 4 buns burger buns toasted
  • 1 cup lettuce shredded
  • 1 medium tomato sliced
  • 4 slices pickles optional
  • 4 tablespoons ketchup to taste
  • 4 tablespoons mustard to taste

Method

Prepare the Patties
  1. In a mixing bowl, gently form the ground beef into 4 equal balls, about 4 ounces each. Do not overwork the meat.
Grill the Patties
  1. Preheat the grill to high heat. Place the meat balls on the grill and use a spatula to smash each ball down to about 1/2 inch thick.
  2. Cook for about 3-4 minutes on one side, then flip and place a slice of cheese on top. Cook for an additional 2-3 minutes until the cheese is melted and the burger reaches desired doneness.
Assemble the Burgers
  1. Toast the burger buns on the grill for about 1 minute. Layer the bottom bun with lettuce, the smashed patty, tomato slices, pickles, ketchup, and mustard. Top with the other half of the bun.
