Ingredients
  

Cake
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp baking soda
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter softened
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1/2 cup milk whole or 2%
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
Frosting
  • 2 cups heavy whipping cream
  • 1/4 cup powdered sugar
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
Topping
  • 2 cups fresh strawberries sliced

Method
 

Cake Preparation
  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.
  2. In a mixing bowl, combine flour, sugar, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
  3. Add softened butter, eggs, milk, and vanilla extract. Beat on medium speed for 2 minutes until smooth.
  4. Pour the batter evenly into the prepared pans.
  5. Bake for 25 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
  6. Allow the cakes to cool in the pans for 10 minutes, then remove from pans and cool completely on wire racks.
Frosting Preparation
  1. In a mixing bowl, beat the heavy whipping cream until soft peaks form.
  2. Gradually add powdered sugar and vanilla extract, continuing to beat until stiff peaks form.
Assembling the Cake
  1. Place one cake layer on a serving plate. Spread a layer of whipped cream frosting on top.
  2. Add a layer of sliced strawberries on top of the frosting.
  3. Place the second cake layer on top and frost the top and sides with the remaining whipped cream.
  4. Decorate with additional strawberries on top.

Notes

Chantilly Cake is best served chilled and can be made a day in advance. Store leftovers in the refrigerator.
