Method
Cake Preparation
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.
- In a mixing bowl, combine flour, sugar, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
- Add softened butter, eggs, milk, and vanilla extract. Beat on medium speed for 2 minutes until smooth.
- Pour the batter evenly into the prepared pans.
- Bake for 25 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
- Allow the cakes to cool in the pans for 10 minutes, then remove from pans and cool completely on wire racks.
Frosting Preparation
- In a mixing bowl, beat the heavy whipping cream until soft peaks form.
- Gradually add powdered sugar and vanilla extract, continuing to beat until stiff peaks form.
Assembling the Cake
- Place one cake layer on a serving plate. Spread a layer of whipped cream frosting on top.
- Add a layer of sliced strawberries on top of the frosting.
- Place the second cake layer on top and frost the top and sides with the remaining whipped cream.
- Decorate with additional strawberries on top.
